This subject is an introduction to Australia’s Building Control System including: the functions of the WA Building Commission; the role of Permit Authorities; planning legislation interaction with Building Construction; final commissioning of major projects from a regulatory perspective; sustainability and modern Building Control legislation and access for people with disabilities in current Codes.Please Note: If it’s your first time studying a Curtin University subject, you’ll need to complete their compulsory ‘Academic Integrity Program’. Survey Australia’s building control system and interpret legal requirements. Learn about the Building Code of Australia, sustainability issues and disability access. Consider how the Building Act impacts development applications and approvals. 

This subject develops the student&#39;s knowledge of the role and responsibilities of Marine Surveyors and the skills that are necessary for carrying out marine survey work and the preparation of subsequent survey reports. It also considers a number of different survey categories and the respective roles of a number of national and international authorities such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its conventions, the maritime classification societies, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and Port State Control authorities.

Marine Surveying and Inspection

This course is designed to analyse the Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia (BCA) requirements for the design and construction of Class 1 and 10 buildings. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of building surveying scientific principles used in the design and operation of these developments.The course covers the Building Code of Australia Volume 2 and associated Australian Standards, focusing on the design and assessment of residential buildings. You will learn about the requirements for timber-framed and steel-framed residential construction, and gain knowledge of fire safety, energy efficiency, health, and amenity requirements for residential buildings. Additionally, the course addresses bushfire mitigation measures essential for the design and construction of residential buildings.
